Echelon Press is seeking queries for a new Steampunk anthology to be published in February 2013. With the recent release of Her Majesty’s Mysterious Conveyance, we have had numerous requests for additional projects.

The 2013 anthology will be entitled Once Upon a Clockwork Tale, and feature four carefully selected stories that effectively retell a specific traditional fairy tale set into a solid Steampunk theme. This anthology will be published in both print and electronic formats.

Please send your queries, with a complete marketing strategy, to echelonpress@gmail.com no later than midnight February 15, 2012. Four queries that indicate a strong understanding of the type of stories we are seeking will be acknowledged, a contract provided, and a full manuscript will be requested no later than March 15, 2012. The authors will have until June 15, 2012 to submit their completed stories for editing.

Given that these stories will be contracted before they are written, Echelon Press reserves the right to void any contract with an author it feels cannot fulfill the obligation of writing a complete story within the acceptable premise.

Authors should be aware that completed works will be required to be between 15,000 and 20,000 words. There is no additional flexibility in the word count. All works must be suitable for readers 13 and older. This anthology will be published under the Echelon line, but we always strive to reach young readers.

Please do not submit any graphically violent or sexual premises.

Queries should include the following information:

Name

City, State

Web/Blog URL

Twitter ID

Facebook URL

Original fairy tale title

Proposed anthology title

Proposed story outline (no more than 500 words)

Allison Ryder is not having her best day. Thanks to the Texas weather, the placement of a seemingly insignificant flyer on the windshield of her car has opened up a big ol’ can of worms. First, there’s the near miss with a dreamy brown-eyed man (Did we mention his not-so-charming attitude?). Then there is the overzealous new neighbor (a big wet dog who wants to play with Al in the rain). Then there is her dear and meddlesome best friend who wants everyone to be happy (her parents should have named her Cupid). All in all, things can’t get any worse!

Will Hoyt can’t believe he’s lost his dog. He wonders how he’ll ever be able to care for his niece if he can’t keep a pooch in hand. The flyers seemed like a good idea, until it rained, and the crazy lady in town tried to run over him. It’s taken some time to fall into a place where he could care for his late sister’s teenage daughter (What was he thinking? She’s a teenage girl!) The good news is that the dog has been found…but by the crazy lady. Things could be worse!

Even the rain can’t smother the sparks that fly between Will and Allison, so is it any wonder that their relationship will have to face off against chaos? (Did we mention the marriage?) But of course love is not all peaches and cream when Will faces the possibility of losing everything he holds dear.

A house surrounded by flower-filled gardens and a white picket fence. A house she fled at eighteen. A house full of secrets.

When her mother Rose, an ex-nun, is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Ellen reluctantly returns home to care for her and uncovers a clue to the one secret that has haunted Ellen all her life: the identity of her father. But that is just one of the many secrets hidden behind the beautiful facade of the house on Prospect Road. Ellen discovers the high price both her mother and her Irish grandmother paid for the house on Prospect and she realizes that her meek mother is more of stranger to her than her absent father.

Foote" />In the fall of 1832, London, England, Ariana Dallenhauf begins an unlikely journey into the dark reaches of the unknown. Her guide and mentor, Dimitri Rochester, takes the young woman and attempts to transform her into what he deems more worthy, an immortal; for Dimitri Rochester is the shadow that consumes light; he is an artful killer, a vampire. Although Ariana is reluctant, she has no choice but to follow Dimitri into her new existence.

While adapting to her new life, Ariana discovers that her assumptions about Dimitri are wrong and her feelings for him have changed into something more passionate. In gaining a better understanding of what it means to be a vampire, Ariana discovers her history with vampires goes back further than she ever imagined, for she is in the middle of a legend and has become part of its unfolding story.

Rebecca S. Foote grew up the second to the youngest child amongst five siblings. Needless to say, there was almost always something going on in her home with such a large family. During her youth she enjoyed writing, art, and music which she practiced with her sisters. Rebecca loved creating artwork and writing poetry whenever she had the opportunity.

After she married and started a family, she attended college and worked in the fields of finance and law, but her love of literature kept pulling her back to creative pursuits and she began to write otherworldly adventures involving romance and dark fantasy. Rebecca and her family live in Salt Lake City, Utah where she works and is involved in the community. In Shadows is her debut novel.

The headstrong southern belle had a mind of her own and she could not deny that she’d met her match in handsome Morgan York. After hiring the mysterious stranger as foreman of her Louisiana plantation, she could think of nothing except his lean hard body pressed against hers, the strength of his arms around her, and the taste of passion on his lips.

Morgan York would not be tamed. He kept his heart, scarred, shielded from any who tried, but something burned bright in the emerald eyes of Anna St. Cyr. He sensed rebellion and wildness in her soul that brought out emotions he thought long dead and threatened to consume him. With each passing day, he grew more obsessed with her southern sensuality, and captivated with her response to his touch. Knowing that his past could mean the destruction of their future, he vows to hear her call out his name as makes her his own.

Meet Caroline Bourne

Caroline Bourne was born in Southampton, England to an American father and an English mother. Spending only seven months in England, she grew up in the small southern town of Lecompte, Louisiana, in between transfers to Army posts in Texas and Arkansas with her Army father. She was an avid horse lover and spent many hours on horseback, riding with a group of friends on weekends. Graduating from Lecompte High School in 1965 she went on to spend two years in the United States Marine Corps, being honorably discharged as a Corporal E-4 in 1967. Returning to Louisiana, she went to work for a local newspaper, the Alexandria Daily Town Talk, eventually married and had two daughters, Kristen and Kimberly. Her first novel was published in 1984 by Kensington and 12 others, plus a co-authorship and two contributions to anthologies followed. As the years passed, she worked for lawyers and judges, and eventually moved to Indiana to be near her sister. For the past fourteen years she has worked for a Southern Indiana police department. Today, she is the grandmother of six granddaughters and one great-grandson. You can visit with Caroline on Facebook.

After being dumped by her faithless fiancé, Claire Spencer has abandoned her dreams of a family of her own tucked neatly inside a picket fence. Instead, she’s plotting her solo course and settling for a quiet life as an independent Williamsburg shop owner. So how does she become a killer’s target?

Sometime security consultant Riley, burned out, disillusioned, and haunted by a young girl he couldn’t save, vows never to work with women again. But when a thug tries to kill the friend of a friend, the woman winds up in his arms, and all Riley’s plans go to hell. Knowing she’s in danger, he can’t walk away.

While dodging speeding cars, ducking bullets, and escaping through murky swamp waters, conventional Claire and freewheeling Riley struggle against their powerful chemistry—if she’s picket fences, he’s barbed wire.

Opposites do attract.

Who is Ellis Vidler?

As a child in the South, I spent long, hot days imagining myself an Indian or pioneer or musketeer. At night I (and my whole family) read. From Geronimo and D’Artagnan to Anne Shirley and Nancy Drew, I lived them all. No angst in my childhood. Later I became the glamorous Scarlett O’Hara (a stretch, I admit). So where did that leave me as an adult? Writing fiction, what else? I love creating characters and making them do what I want, but mostly they take off on their own and leave me hurrying to catch up.

All my stories have some degree of romance and a lot of suspense. My first book, published by Silver Dagger Mysteries, was Haunting Refrain. The second was The Peeper, a suspense novel co-authored with retired LEO Jim Christopher. (That was a trip, let me tell you!) And now, Cold Comfort, my new romantic suspense.

I’ll continue to write as I can dream.

This party is open to the public, and we will be serving light refreshments.

After she’s dumped by her faithless fiancé, Claire Spencer abandons her dreams of a family of her own tucked neatly inside a picket fence. Instead, she plots her solo course and settles for a quiet life as an independent Williamsburg shop owner. So how does she become a killer’s target?
Sometime security consultant Riley, burned out, disillusioned, and haunted by a young girl he couldn’t save, vows never to work with women again. But when a thug tries to kill Claire and she winds up in Riley’s arms, his plans go all to hell. Knowing she’s in danger, he can’t walk away.
While dodging a speeding car, ducking bullets, and escaping through murky swamp waters, conventional Claire and freewheeling Riley struggle against their powerful chemistry–if she’s picket fences, he’s barbed wire.
Opposites do attract.

The year is 2021. Natural forces have changed our world. As the Earth’s magnetic poles have shifted, pressure on the planet’s mantle layer is building. The bottom line…earthquakes now wreak havoc in areas they have never occurred before.

In Mexico, members of an archaeological team investigate the remains of an ancient village uncovered by a quake; racing to prove their theories about the civilization that once lived there. But, disaster strikes when the accidental destruction of an artifact unleashes a worldwide agricultural plague.

Halfway across the continent, Douglas Abledan, a blind computer technologist, embarks on a long-anticipated vacation. On the plane to Chicago, he meets world-renowned agricultural pathologist Cara Cordelia, but their chance meeting could cost them both their lives.

In this stand-alone sequel to his critically acclaimed “Blind Traveler Down a Dark River,” author Robert P. Bennett continues to bring us suspense and intrigue while exploring a world of the not too distant future. While society struggles with the impact of natural changes, the advancement of new technology enables a blind man to investigate a murder.

[OmniLit][Kindle][KindleUK][KindleGE][KindleFR][Smashword][Nook]

Robert Bennett, a former social worker turned writer, lives in the house he grew up in with his mother, one of his two brothers, two dogs that don’t get along, and a turtle. His lifelong focus has been a concern for the needs of society’s disenfranchised. His articles span a wide range of topics from sports to technology and from politics to social justice. His fiction is grounded in real world events and technologies as well as his own philosophical concerns. “It is the act of truly living and believing in yourself that is important, not the manner in which that action is undertaken.” Mr. Bennett has spoken to groups of physical therapy students, church members and senior citizens, and has appeared on several radio programs.
