Once Upon a Clockwork Tale

Clockwork_Tale-2x3Wings

Born into a world where the fairer sex hides coyly behind fans, Winifred is nowhere near the stereotype. She is fearless and passionate about her father’s scientific work. When the King summons him, Winifred is worried. The arrival of her six brothers and the mysterious Amelia and her silent brother offers distraction, but Winifred’s entire world is about to change beyond recognition and it’s up to her to save everyone she loves.

Hands and Grater

Hands and Grater don’t understand their mother’s unique love for them. For how much love can a machine truly give? As Grimm originally intended, this is a bildungsroman, a tale of two young people coming of age in a time and place filled with danger and joy. The time has come for brother and sister to leave the nest, and learn their true nature, and the nature of their mother.

Bitter Cold

Childhood friends, Kit and Greta, live in an extraordinary place powered by alchemical magic and mechanical wonders. Just when life might offer him favors, Kit is captured by the Snow Queen, a ruthless industrialist, bent on developing her Eternity Engine. Greta must risk everything to save Kit. Can a stubborn young lady best the most powerful woman in the world, with a little alchemy, a lot of luck, and a clockwork reindeer?

The Enchanted Bean

How do you reach a fabled land of giants without any magic beans? Build an airship, of course. A British adventurer takes to the skies seeking wealth and glory, instead he finds ancient gods ruling an oppressive flying kingdom. With the help of their allies, these former masters of men want to replant the World Tree and rebuild their war machines. To stop the sky from falling, our hero will have to do more than chop down a beanstalk.

When Katie Hayes arrives at Eastern Michigan University, where a serial killer has brutally raped and murdered seven young women, she arms herself with a rosary and her Nancy Drew books. Then the unthinkable happens—Katie becomes the victim of a brutal crime, and her life begins to unravel. A crazed kidnapper is back on campus, and Katie finds herself not only in the middle of the investigation, but considered a possible suspect. On the heels of inconsolable loss, Katie begins to understand she is the intended target. As she realizes her life and the lives of the ones she loves are at risk, her Nancy Drew persona takes over. She is hell bent on trapping the perpetrator and making sure the man behind bars isn’t The Wrong Guy.

Judge vs. Nuts by Una Tiers (On Sale Now!)

Fiona Gavelle is living a dismal existence. She works in a dusty law office where she does more secretarial than lawyer work and her husband thinks she should work and keep house simultaneously.

One snowy night, Fiona learns she has been unceremoniously booted from her crummy job, has the final argument with her spouse, leaving her no choice but to move in with her favorite aunt. With little else to do, she drives a friend to the funeral of a judge she saw at a reception. Luck strikes, or does it, when her influential friend finds her a new job and Fiona ends up involved in the probate case of the dead judge.

Before long, Fiona begins to discover things that don’t fit, but blithely moves along trying to focus on building her own law practice. She puts her heart into her work and tries to ignore her personal life, especially the raspy-voiced detective determined to prove the judge was murdered.

Meet the Author:

Beginning with Sherlock Holmes, Una Tiers (pen name) loves the twists and turns of mysteries. Initially she planned to be a famous author, (after the veterinary dream died down, that is,) but her father encouraged her to go into business.

The business plan didn’t bode too well and Una studied English literature, Speech and Theater. Later, she followed her new dream of becoming a lawyer. Little did she suspect how the practice of law had become a business.

Her favorite authors include Sue Grafton, Harry Mark Petrakis, Miriam Grace Monfredo, and Phyllis Richman. She wrote a story after a particularly unfair incident in court and it grew into Judge vs. Nuts. Keeping in mind her squeamishness, Judge vs. Nuts, is a nice cozy murder mystery suitable for mint tea and ginger cookies.

Echelon Press is seeking queries for a new Steampunk anthology to be published in February 2013. With the recent release of Her Majesty’s Mysterious Conveyance, we have had numerous requests for additional projects.

The 2013 anthology will be entitled Once Upon a Clockwork Tale, and feature four carefully selected stories that effectively retell a specific traditional fairy tale set into a solid Steampunk theme. This anthology will be published in both print and electronic formats.

Please send your queries, with a complete marketing strategy, to echelonpress@gmail.com no later than midnight February 15, 2012. Four queries that indicate a strong understanding of the type of stories we are seeking will be acknowledged, a contract provided, and a full manuscript will be requested no later than March 15, 2012. The authors will have until June 15, 2012 to submit their completed stories for editing.

Given that these stories will be contracted before they are written, Echelon Press reserves the right to void any contract with an author it feels cannot fulfill the obligation of writing a complete story within the acceptable premise.

Authors should be aware that completed works will be required to be between 15,000 and 20,000 words. There is no additional flexibility in the word count. All works must be suitable for readers 13 and older. This anthology will be published under the Echelon line, but we always strive to reach young readers.

Please do not submit any graphically violent or sexual premises.

Queries should include the following information:

  • Name
  • City, State
  • Web/Blog URL
  • Twitter ID
  • Facebook URL
  • Original fairy tale title
  • Proposed anthology title
  • Proposed story outline (no more than 500 words)

Who is Ellis Vidler?

As a child in the South, I spent long, hot days imagining myself an Indian or pioneer or musketeer. At night I (and my whole family) read. From Geronimo and D’Artagnan to Anne Shirley and Nancy Drew, I lived them all. No angst in my childhood. Later I became the glamorous Scarlett O’Hara (a stretch, I admit). So where did that leave me as an adult? Writing fiction, what else? I love creating characters and making them do what I want, but mostly they take off on their own and leave me hurrying to catch up.

All my stories have some degree of romance and a lot of suspense. My first book, published by Silver Dagger Mysteries, was Haunting Refrain. The second was The Peeper, a suspense novel co-authored with retired LEO Jim Christopher. (That was a trip, let me tell you!) And now, Cold Comfort, my new romantic suspense.

I’ll continue to write as I can dream.

A Friend in Need

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to stop by our site. If this is your first time, WELCOME! If you have been here before, we are so glad you came back. What you are about to read is NOT our normal offerings, but we feel very strongly about it.

We have an author amongst our ranks named D.M. Anderson, We know him as Dave. Dave recently had his first novel published with Echelon/Quake. You may have seen his KILLER COWS tweets and posts ALL over. Dave is a really neat guy and he is a very important member of our group.

Recently, Dave came down with the flu, which turned into pneumonia. Complications from that came up and caused an infection that attacked the linings of his heart and lungs causing them to begin to fail. Dave has had surgery and is currently in ICU on a respirator.

Dave is a teacher and has a family at home wishing he were home for the holidays. We would like to ask for your help. As a side  note, Dave recently pledged to donate all of his eBook royalties to one of his former students who has cancer.

We would like to ask that if you are reading this note that you consider buying a copy of Dave’s KILLER COWS. There are a number of ways you can do this.

1. Order from your local bookstore and support the indies.

2. Order from any online retailer.

3. Send $15.00 via PayPal to [pay.echelon@gmail.com] and we will send you a copy. If you order with option #3, I will match Dave’s royalty for each book ordered using this option.

We’re not asking you to pay our author’s bills. We’re asking you to help us do it. You get a great book in the bargain and this book is great fun for readers of ALL ages. And the gift-giving season is upon us. Your kids will thank you for this one.

Thanks for even considering this.

KILLER COWS

Killer cows! They’re big! They’re angry! They smell bad! They’re coming!

The only thing standing in their way is a lonely 14-year-old, whether he’s ready or not… Randy Meyer is the new kid in Satus Creek, a tiny farm town where nothing ever happens, and his days are filled with tedium. Then one summer afternoon, a meteor crashes nearby. It’s just the first in a series of events that will not only change his life, but threaten the entire planet. Soon after, vicious cows are on the rampage all over the country, and they’re not of this Earth!

Armed with a newly-discovered flying saucer he doesn’t know how to fly, and a misfit group of new friends he doesn’t entirely trust, Randy is forced to grow up fast if he’s going to make decisions that will not only help him fit-in with his new peers, but save the world from a fate worse than death!
