Joel Fox
Biography:
Joel Fox likes to say he has a long rap sheet in California politics. For three decades he has been a taxpayer and small business advocate, political advisor, opinion column writer, ballot measure consultant, and public affairs and policy advisor.
Fox grew up in Massachusetts. He says he got his love for history breathing the air in the Boston area, frequently driving past the homes of the presidents Adams and visiting many historical sites.
In 2008, Fox completed the Los Angeles FBI Citizens Academy program gaining a deeper understanding of the FBI and its mission.
Fox has authored hundreds of opinion articles, which have been published in the national papers such as the Wall Street Journal and USA Today; most all major California newspapers including the Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle, other papers across the country, and on his well-received California political/business blog Fox and Hounds Daily.com. He also wrote a piece for National Public Radio and had an essay published in a Time Warner-Baseball Hall of Fame sponsored book, What Baseball Means to Me. Fox’s non-fiction book recounting the story of California’s most famous ballot measure, The Legend of Proposition 13, was published in 2003.
Fox was advisor to Arnold Schwarzenegger during the historic recall election of 2003. He also worked for noted taxpayer advocate Howard Jarvis and former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.
Fox served on a total of six state commissions appointed by two governors and two Assembly Speakers from both major political parties. He is an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Public Policy, Pepperdine University.
A college cross-country runner, Fox competed in the Boston Marathon in the late 1960s and early 1970s and still competes today in race walking events.
